Expressions From Me.

Saturday 14th September 2013

A Factual Post, Aarrgh!   A different post for me.

Express Yourself 'Man'  [ part one ]
I was sitting in the solitary darkness of my life, and thinking about this whole blogging world. Recently and over time I have read so many posts from people expressing so much about life, love, universe, trauma, health, God and all things that tugs at one's emotions. All top quality work may I say, not criticizing. Also how music can be related to our emotions, poetry with humour and powerful heart wrenching words, which I firmly believe.  People respond with all the nice and supportive comments, some even expressing a little of their own and having a conversation. Mostly women, not all.
But this post from my viewpoint a mans, well I think of myself as a man.  There does not seem to be many men out there with all these powerful life stories, expressions of love, or how the universe is treating them what ever, but maybe they just cannot let it out.  Well I use to be like this in fact I still am, so I am stepping out from my comfort zone. Just this once, maybe it might even kill this blog, who knows.  I am not a writer, not as educated  and do not possess the ability and quality to equal the posts I have read, hence I will not be able use the expressive and fancy words, so please just accept for what it is.
How many people actually practice what they preach, yes I know there are some, but in truth how many others join in to be part of the crowd. Maybe I am one.
AUK-logoclick me for more info:
I was born very young, and from this very early age I was diagnosed Asthmatic, quite severely, but I knew no different. My youth years I spent struggling and many times being taken to hospital, and nearly died on two occasions. When I was child there were no inhalers, well not yet available for public use, so I use to suck a pill called Neo-Epinine, it was so powerful for me I had to break it into four and suck under the tongue. I do remember my heart rate rising and it felt like my chest might explode. Catch 22, either I suffocate struggling to breathe or risk my heart giving in. Nice choice.
[ Neo-Epinine (Isoprenaline sulphate) tablets, mid 1950s
The drug isoprenaline is a bronchodilator. It was first introduced in 1948 for use with asthma.
Its over-prescription in aerosol form in the 1950s and early 1960s contributed to a rise in
asthma-related mortality. These Neo-Epinine tablets are believed to date from the mid 1950s. ]
I am one of 5.4 million in the UK, and not many people know that an average of 3 people per day in UK still die from it. This is today, so you can imagine what the statistics were when I was a child. I missed a lot of schooling and hence my education suffered. One particular teacher realised this and helped me beyond the normal schooling hours, and if it was not for her I would not have gained 7 x GCE's. So I say a big thank you MRS WINGATE. tears are swelling my eyes at this thought. I did try to partake in the PE lessons [Physical Education] I did two cross country runs and the second time I collapsed, and was taken to the nearby hospital. So no more.
Peak Flow Meter,N3103 and diary. Over the years and even as recent as a few months back I have had to do twice daily peak flow meter tests, usually over a period of a month and record each test (best of thee puffs) and no cheating. I still have my meter from a very long time ago. My mother taught me this. And while I am on the subject of my mother. Well she was a true Angel,[click me] not just because she was my mother and I loved her dearly, but because she was always there, by side and supporting every little moan, each wheeze, and every night when I coughed myself to sleep, only to awake a few hours later. This caused a great deal of tiredness and tension. It made things so awkward if I ever did a sleep overs, which as kids we liked to do, or other times when everyone else is sleeping cozily and here I am trying not to cough, or wheeze to attract attention. Plenty of time to think.
Today I still hide when taking a puff from the inhaler. Even today this is so, I am lucky to get 5 hours sleep. Always tired, I know many of you out there experienced this lack of sleep as well, for different reasons maybe, so you know what I am talking about. Although this is an on going story this is for another day, today is about....well what is it about really? Am I preaching, letting off steam, looking for sympathy or just being informative and letting you my readers, if any do read that is, get to know me a little better. A few posts recently mentioned things like do we really know who is behind the blogs and words, and having the belief and trust a reader has to have. Anyway I am going off the beaten track and do not want to bore you more. There will probably be no reader that gets this far anyway. So I will tell you what, I will break this up into parts so I will do another follow up  post if there is any interest. My battles with life and more recently Diabetes, which is still like a bombshell hitting me.
I would like call any other men and see if they wish to join in on this 'Express Yourself Man' so come on and help set up a club. I know this will be hard because I do not have many men followers and probably less who read. Contact me as per normal Thank you.
Part two coming shortly, a day or two. for my own piece of mind,

The Parchment - Fantasy Story

Thursday 22nd august 2013

The Parchment.

Everything Changes.
chapter 1
GAA/c
Today the rain is pouring down, but just moving my rocking chair along the porch a little way I could stay dry. I am a person who could sit for many a long hour just watching and listening to the rain. Being hypnotised and drawn into another world. Just like I am about to do for you, draw you into a story, a prompt and I hope that you enjoy.

It happen one day many moons ago, while walking the forest path to my usual haunt, a large bridge and picnic area. But it was an Autumn day, the foliage on trees and moor land were changing colour, and the visions were out of this world.  I often walked to this place with my guitar slung over my back, sit on the riverbank and give nature a free concert. I found it frees the mind and the animals, rabbits, deer and squirrels enjoyed themselves. Some even started to bring friends. Each time I played more and more turned up to listen and maybe dance.  This one particular day while walking the small gravel path, I could an elderly couple walking in front of me, approximately 100 paces ahead. The speed they were walking I knew I would be up with them shortly.  I decided to slow a little, not sure why, but did so all the same. As the bend was turned that brought the bridge into view, the female seemed to drop something, a paper by the way it floated to the ground. They disappeared around the bend, I came to and picked up the paper. An old looking piece of paper, maybe a parchment. Unfolding it I read the words that were written on it.  Written in old English, and slightly browned with age, but the words were readable. Deciding that this was valuable and meaningful to the couple I made an effort to catch them and hand it back. Not being a healthy person I just upped my walking pace, knowing there was nowhere these people could go. They were and elderly stooping couple, the man with a walking stick, so how hard could it be.
As I turned the bend, expecting to see them, imagine my shock when they were not visible. There was nowhere for them to hide. If I forget the fact that they were elderly and not being able to run or fly or whatever other way, could they vanish. The moor was flat, with a few distant bushes and small crab apple trees, the path I was on led straight to the bridge, which I could now see. Turning round and round, tripping as I did so, they could  not be seen. Checking behind a few gorse bushes along side the path, but all in vain. I was confusing myself now trying to work out what had happened. I continued to the bridge, and found what I expected on my setting out this morning, I was alone.
After an hour or two looking around for the elderly couple, not finding them, I decided to give up. I sat down on the river bank, dangling my legs over the bank and brushing my feet along the waters surface.  Playing my guitar, and within a short while all my usual audience appeared. Rabbits on the far bank, birds in the trees, and some ducks paddling near my feet. Squirrels came bobbing tails, and nervous movements, eventually sitting at a safe distance.  I continued playing, fully engrossed, absorbed within my music, the sounds travelling out and enveloping all that was nearby. The more I played the deeper in thought I went. The magic of the sounds, echoing and bouncing off the trees and returning with the sound of nature. What seemed like hours, and my fingers beginning to burn I looked up and stopped playing. The animals and birds were everywhere, deer and horses side by side, birds on every branch in the trees surrounding me. Rabbits and squirrels, badgers and hares on both river banks, all hypnotised with the sounds that were still echoing through the woodland.  I pulled out the parchment and re-read it.                          "I pray your music will be heard by the floating dream reaching the seeker. Bringing them and the seeker together in harmony. For the creatures of the earth will listen and unite. They will, seek the music, and enrich the chosen life, YOU."

Follow their Smell

Chapter 2.
The parchment, I read several times, and still did not really understand it. Yes there were a large amount of creatures surrounding me and listening to my music. But how was this working and why? After an hour of continuous play I had decided to take a break, my fingers were aching and I was entrancing myself along with the creatures.  As soon as I stopped, the animals and birds slowly moved away into the forest and disappeared. With in a few minutes I was alone.  I needed to quench my thirst, I walked to the shingle bank,  bent down and scooped a cupped handful of water. Lovely clear fresh sweet tasting water. As I sipped my second handful a vision caught my eye, I quickly jumped back, startled, the glowing small white deer standing on the opposite bank watching me. Not moving, statue like, with a light glow surrounding him.  I stood quickly, surprised at what I was looking at, staring back at him, both hypnotized with each other. I had not noticed him before, was he a magical creature of the forest, hardly ever seen but the stories are rife.
Breaking the entrancing stare I turned and headed back to my guitar and my small part of the river bank. I sat down and looked again, he was still there looking and not moving. Now accepting the deer and the sight I decided to rethink about how I was to find the elderly couple.  For some unknown reason I got up and wandered about the area. I passed the bridge, and walked over the track to other side,  nothing apart from a few ducks in the water and the noise of the flowing current. The plush green grassy bank, some blackberry bushes and gorse, further back the beech trees with gorse and fern around their base. Still nothing, I wandered into the wood and weaved between the trees and avoided the prickly gorse, turning to walk parallel to the river and came out just up the bank from where my guitar was laying. Starting to walk back, two foxes appeared and stood next to the guitar. I approached slowly, not sure if it was because I did not want to scare them, or because I was the one that was scared.  Closer, they stood their ground, almost able to touch them and still they remained. All the time their eyes were fixed on me.

“If you want to find the Lord and Lady of the Forest then follow us. We have their smell, their aroma, and they have gone this way. They will be at the Forest Village, but will only be found if they wish it”  I could not believe what I just heard. Then another voice spoke, a more feminine sound, “We must move now while the scent is still fresh, come Sir G follow now.” the other fox spoke. I was so stunned and as if  under a spell I picked up my guitar and followed the two foxes. I noticed that the glowing deer was ambling slowly along on the opposite river bank.  The foxes padding faster, and I was struggling to keep up. “We must not lose the smell of the Lord and Lady of the Forest, so keep close.”

The Ghost Party

13th July 2013

The Ghost Party…

This story has many variations from many countries. the basics remaining the same. My story although it was attached to the Isle of Wight, I could easily have adapted it to a place in my old home village of Brockenhurst. There is at least two places I can think of.
Way back in 1821, George Maurice Bisset, the owner of the most grandest mansions to be seen, in a fit of temper he set fire to it and burnt it to the ground. This was because he did not want his daughter to inherit. This was because she had the temerity to marry a clergyman without her fathers consent. All that was left of the mansion now are two gateposts standing at the end of the long drive.
A hundred years later in the 1920s me as a young man was walking the road enjoying the scene, and making notes for my blogging stories. It was very cold night, and it was getting late. and I thought it time to try and find a room for the night.  As I went I came upon two gateposts with heraldic beasts on top of them. I was so impressed, and, given it being New Years Eve, I wondered if I could a nights shelter here.
I walked down the drive, and saw that there were lights ablaze in every window of the mansion, and sounds of gaiety and laughter: there was a great party going on. It was obviously a  fancy dress, because of the men wore powdered wigs and women were resplendent in their Georgian dresses.
I banged on the front door and on the windows, but could not get any attention. After a period I gave up: but I was half way up the drive when I thought I would go back and try again. As I turned, a black carriage pulled by four black horses came thundering down the drive from the house towards me: I flung myself into a ditch to avoid being trampled beneath the hooves. I was so shaken, bruised and very angry, that I decided not to return.
 cr-05-02
I later found a room in the village in a small, quaint lodging house. When I was talking to the landlady about my experience, she told me that the house was long gone: it had been knocked down in her great – grannies time.
The next day I decided to go back, and found nothing but an overgrown drive with two old gateposts at the entrance. There were no heraldic beasts on the gateposts, no house. All he could see was a field, a tumbledown barn an old orchard, and a tangle of weeds. If you have nothing better to do on a New Years eve, then pop along to this party.

Red Flag of Destruction

Wednesday 11th July 2012

Loved and Forgotten (Red Flag of Destruction)

Hope you all listen and enjoy the show,, hopefully will be doing some more in the near future.
This song was written by myself, John Dunkinson, and Richie Butler. Back in the time of many protest songs and anti-war songs, we like other musicians thought we would include our piece. The song was written and recorded at TW Studios London back in middle 70's, Although the recording was ok at time my versions is a product of re-recording and making it digital. Any way I hope the quality is good enough to enjoy. My other site has given good  reviews.

D  o  w  N!

This view is from the castle Keep, it was quite a trek to get to it, and as you can see it is a hell of a trek back down all those small slippery stone steps. Where is 'Health and Safety' or a 'Lift' / 'Elevator' (to my American friends) when you want one.

Now to go back Down
D  O  W  N  !       Cliff Rail lift, apparently it is said to be the shortest rail way in the world. This actually travels directly up a cliff side, and on the top a very nice cafe greets you where you can enjoy a nice sandwich. The view is quite spectacular, looking out across the sea.

Now to go Back Down 2

All the above is of my own work, Please enjoy and express your views...

Peaceful, 13/01/ 2012

My idea of peace is---
New Forest Ponies
Forest Stream
One beautiful sunny day, my wife and I went for a walk through the nearby New Forest. We eventually came upon this peaceful scene, and luckily I had my camera. The results are as you can see. Others were taken but I think these pictures represent the theme well. But they also have a memory within as well, which makes it doubly good.

So to all that view, please enjoy and comment.

Lymington Folk Club - (Bar Room Blues) Update!

http://www.unique-photography.co.uk/folk/index.html logo
http://www.jdrobertsband.com/

The  4th January 2012 and the Lymington Folk Club, both the date and place will be set in
my mind for a very long time. Why you ask, well, I met up with some old friends from my
teenage years and my dearest friend and longest known friend John Dunkinson played a
small set, by himself and a couple of tunes accompanied with Pete Strong and Pete Jones.

His music was uplifting and the icing on the cake for me. But I am pretty sure the rest of
the club also enjoyed his songs, judging by the applause and the after effect.  John who
lives in Seattle, USA means I and his other UK friends do not see him very often, and
because of this it made it doubly good for me.  But must not forget the other artists that
performed this night, because once again the Folk club produced tunes to the highest of
standards.

A very big THANK YOU for this alone.

Apart from my regular visit and enjoyment of the music at this Folk Club, by the way is
every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month, it had turned into a re-union of old friends, the
only thing that remains to be seen is whether or not we will all keep to our departing
words, 'keep in touch, I'll give you text or call, check you out on Facebook, don't leave it
another thirty years' you know what I mean. We have all done it at some time in our lives,
people get separated with life's paths, and then meet up again further down the paths of
fate. We had a good night talking of the past and of today. This is a sign of good friends,
you can talk to each other easily, no stopping and faltering and wondering what to say.

John Dunkinson sang some songs in remembrance of a local  character, poet and singer
songwriter from the area. He has recorded his songs and put them onto a CD called
'Gypsy'  and subtitled 'In Memory of Rod Legge' Very high quality recording and very
high standard of music. So I suggest you have a listen to them by visiting the web site on the following link  http://www.jdrobertsband.com/   and if possible support the local characters.

Without these people, your villages and towns would be like any other, boring. These
characters can be like an attraction and a very valuable asset. Look after them while alive
and if not then at least give them life in their death with some form of acknowledgement.
Please visit and website and help. THANK YOU, for this.

http://www.jdrobertsband.com/  = for the CD 'Gypsy'

http://www.unique-photography.co.uk/folk/index.html = for the Lymington Folk Club. If in the area

remember to visit. 1st and 3 rd Wednesday of each and every month

Oh, Little Bridge. - A Poem by Gerald Ainger/Cobb

Oh little bridge may I cross?
Where to go I am at a loss,
Back from where I came, Oh no!
It’s your direction I must go,
Oh little bridge you are in my way,
I must pass on this winters day,
Your railings are in need of some paint,
As they are looking a little faint,
Oh little bridge you are a star,
To cross you I’ve traveled far,
Looking across to the other side,
I see secrets you have tried to hide,
Oh little bridge spanning the stream,
To tread your boards is my dream,
Trickling waters bubbling over stones,
Soak my feet, ease my aching bones,
Oh little bridge I’ve changed my mind,
Another route I shall find,
My decision, not one that was rash,
I’ve decide to paddle through the water-splash.

 Dedicated to the village bridge
 in Brockenhurst, UK.
I spent many a summer evening sitting on it’s railings
 playing the guitar.  July 1997.

Bar Room Blues..

Us at Thomas Tripp, Lymington,UK.    Thomas Tripp. Lymington UK.
Doin' Our 'Ting      29 June 2011

We, John and myself Gerald, turned up at the Thomas Tripp public house,in Lymington, Hampshire, UK, expecting the Lymington Folk Club to be present, and hoping to see some musicians of varying styles. But to our surprise it was not on on this particular Wednesday. Yes you guessed, it was next Wednesday. Apparently every first and third Wednesday of the month. It was a shame because my friend had a music CD, that he and several others had recorded numerous songs written and performed by themselves,  in remembrance of the local poet, musician and character of Lymington. Some of the songs were in part at least written by this local character. I must say that it is very good so if you get a chance to purchase a copy I strongly advise it. All in a good cause I might add. See and visit the web site, it explains all and I say support your local characters. www.jdrobertsband.com     Any way I diverse.....

We met up with another friend, also in the picture, his name is Pete and he is the one on the left. I personally have not seen him since 1979 -1980, he said the last he saw me was when I had my hair draping half way down my back. And so thinking this then the years would be about right. We all sat down with a pint and having a chat about things from past and present, we, after a short while asked the bar tender if we could have our own guitar session in the back bar, to which she said we could. Of course it was lucky that I had brought two guitars with me.  We all proceeded to have a good evening of music on our own. The memories rushed back from the days of past gone when me and John used to do it regularly. The reason I am recording this is because, as one reason already mentioned, I have not seen Pete for over thirty five years and it was brilliant for this to happen now, we could still talk and have things to say. Conversation did not become quiet or awkward. And now with mobile numbers passed over we should be able to continue our re-found friendship.

The other reason is.....John, who now lives in the USA and has visited UK every year, parents still live here, but for various reasons we have not met up for about ten years. So this event has been recorded, by this blog, and linked to others, Blogger, and photographs. So just in case we do not meet again this will always be here.
We were child friends, grew up together and  learnt to play guitars together but when he went to USA I must admit I felt a little lost. So memories likes this mean so much more, hopefully there will be more. But just in case.
I had a chat with Pete a couple of weeks later and we might try a guitar duo, at the very least for pleasure and fun...
So for now I say 'Watch this Space'

www.jdrobertsband.com     Dont forget to visit and support, Please..

If I could See for a Day - Assuming I could See Before !!

I will write about this one because of my sarcasm and cynicism.
My feeling is that if I was blind then how the hell would I know what I would like to see, look at or view. People can describe things to us and there fore will depend on how good that description is and of our interpretation.
So lets say that I lost my sight when twenty five years old, and have been able to visit and see a large part of the world. I am now forty five and have been blind for .... oh yes twenty years.
With my vast experience and knowledge, and of course memory, what would I like to see again. Being able to see would also bring into ones mind, thoughts and emotions. So let me think, where and what in this world would be worth looking at and enjoying...hang on be back in a minute,,cuppa time.

The picture tells it all, Disney in Florida is the place to view and be. It portrays happiness, joy, love and pure magic of wonder.
A place to forget all ones worries and become a born again child. Run up to a character get a hug an autograph and a photo. 'Everlasting memories'
Love love and more, enjoy....
Not to forget the smiles on every ones faces.

How I became Cynical -part two

The Death of a Tree
Told it was diseased?? Don't look it to me...........
Next Chapter,, trying to find work..  Oh yes easy I hear you all saying.....MY FOLLOW UP......

.......This all depends on your age.. Assuming you are of average or above intelligence, willing to put your hand to anything and is quite capable and willing to learn. One would think that getting a job was straight forward, especially if you listen to all the bullshit that comes out of our Tweedle Dee and Dum Government. After all they are creating a lot of the unemployment by making all these cuts and in turn the government offices/departments and council offices around the country are reducing their workforce to meet the monetary cuts that has been inflicted on them. I go to sign on every couple of weeks and I am constantly told 'companies are taking on the older persons' although they cannot tell me which ones or show any proof. All I hear is more being put out onto the unemployment ranks.. Join the club..
I bet that there are many others out there feeling the same way, we want to work, we want a job, but the system and the companies are saying other wise. I have records, mostly emails showing how many I have applied for and I am not limiting myself to one field. Again how many others are in the same position, and feeling very low and thinking they have so much to offer but are being held back.
So lets all get together and start shouting, many voices make louder noises than one. If Tweedle Dee and Dum run the country lets start to run Tweedle Dee and Dum..after all Mickey Mouse is in charge here....
Not  having money makes things difficult, not having transport makes getting about difficult, easy to say I know but 'lets not let the bastards grind us down...
Hope you all get the gist of being cynical, but it goes deeper doesn't it !!!!!!!!!!

“The Best Photo I've Taken, Not technically though .....” by Gerry Ainger

“The Best Photo I've Taken, Not technically though I say, do you hear.....” by Gerry Ainger

My favourite photo, as shown was taken while on holiday in Florida. It may not be a technically good photo and professionals would no doubt criticise it for position, its exposure or some other crap that they like to spin. Just to justify their position of being professional. But to me and probably to many others it's what you like that counts. Like music some songs you like some you don't but yours and my likes and dislikes does not make it a bad song. So what ever we say and do we look at our photo's and enjoy them, for mine it is the picture itself and with the memory it brings, enhances the picture, and I don't bloody care what others say, I only hope they enjoy it for their own reasons. So I say enjoy as I will enjoy others... Thanks.

PS: for the record it was taken while waiting for a bus at Key West to take us to Downtown Disney, with a Ricoh Camera, cannot remember model, A very nice warm day.

“The Oldest Thing I Own is a Violin but not a Stradavarius.” by Gerry Ainger

Well this is an easy story to write, it my mother's 'violin'. She passed it on to me way back in 1970, when I was playing my guitar in my bedroom. She came into my bedroom with violin in hand, she said as I was the only one in our family musically minded I could take over the ownership. She took it out of the case and proceeded to tune it up and the played 'God Save the Queen'. Then handed it to me and said it is yours. It needs a little TLC other wise it is a good instrument. She went on to tell me that she had not played it since 1938 when she played at Southampton Guildhall in the Southampton Music Festival. So I feel she must have been pretty good as she had not touched it for 30 years or more.
This is one good memory I will never forget. I also have Certificates from 1936 and 1937 where she came first in solo and third in Duet also at Southampton music festival. Yes I was thoroughly impressed and I feel I never attained the same in guitar. But still very enjoyable. By the way this Violin is circa 1929 which is fairly old and valuable as sentimental but not monetary,
A Copy of Certificate, History.

My Guitar is around 34, not 100 per cent sure. It has been through the wars but still very playable.. Lifeblood of a guitarist,,,still tuning and playing it and not letting one down, still beating.

Olympics or Reality,Oh Which One to Watch, As If .....

I would rather watch Olympics, because it is shown on various channels all day long. Which means what I hear you ask.... It means that I don't have to endure all the reality crap shows that seems to flood our screens these days. Turning on the telly and watching people competing in a race or long jump or trying to throw things further is "far more" interesting than watching people eating bugs and humiliating themselves or obese people in shorts and so called judges making derisory remarks.Just to mention a couple, I could do this for half the fees they get. If some one in the street or else where said these things they would have lawsuits or broken noses. What I can't understand is why are they employed being paid big bucks to be rude, ignorant and just plain insulting to people who seem to take it..

I suppose in warped way they could be compared because both have individuals or teams doing battle. But the Olympics are not trying to con people out of money by voting for our favourite runner or jumper or thrower.

Nice Shot Gerry
Can the 2012 in London be of this principle, I think not. All the money being ploughed into making a new stadium and all other arenas about the country. The sailing in Dorset, all the upgrades and alterations and upheaval to the local people. The cost, where is the money really coming from? The thing is what happens after. It is like preparing and cooking a meal and then eating. The preparation takes a couple of hours and the eating takes lot less time. All one has to show is dirty dishes and fat bellies.

The Olympics lets say four to five years to build, lots of upheaval and preparation just for two weeks of sport. To make it worse is that the public paid for it and the public still have to pay high prices if they want to be a spectator. Who has the fat bellies at the end of it all, I wonder.

So I say throw your discus and throw it well because we'll still phone to vote who threw it the farthest, does not matter who actually did... Does it?

My Vices or Not: Can you Believe this Rubbish or Can You???

I do not have any vices, they are only vices in every one else's eyes. So this being the case I cannot give up what I do not have. But if there was something I could quit and want to, then it would have to be eating like a horse every day, smoking forty fags a day, drinking twenty plus pints every weekend and swearing like a bloody trooper. Ha ! guess which one is true, if there is a true one. Oh I tell lies as well. So peoples do you or me really have vices or is it just some government brainwashing scam going on.... God this is such rubbish ha, ha, ha,LOL

Just look at what can happen, one fag too many, one pint too many or one insult too many. Never mind look on the bright side,oh sorry there isn't one.
Bye for now.....
